Interest rates generally change in the opposite direction of the market. Bad market news is good interest rate news and vice versa. The economic difficulties of the past years are the reason that rates are at never before seen lows. These lows will not last. They are temporary.
During the month of March we saw our first real and recent rate increase as the US economy showed signs of growth and the European debt crisis improved. In general, analysts believe that the US economy is slowly improving. With that improvement will come increasing rates.
On Friday the 6th of April, the market received a surprisingly high unemployment report as well as new negative information about Spain and the Eurpoean Debt crisis.
Interest rates have immediately returned to their lowest levels. These low rates will not last as any future market improvements will have rates quickly moving back up.
